This instant pot egg roll in a bowl recipe aka inside-out egg roll is about as easy as it gets and so darn delicious! It combines a few simple ingredients and is ready in just under 30 minutes. My family eats this meal so well and it's a really nice convenient meal on busy nights. If you don't have an instant pot but still want to make this, I've included stovetop instructions below.

Ingredients Needed for Instant Pot Egg Roll in a Bowl
- Olive Oil- This is used for sauteing the onions. Avocado oil is fine too.
- Yellow Onion- Onions add a ton of flavor to this meal. Yellow or white onions will work.
- Ground Pork- You could also use chicken, beef, or turkey. ButcherBox is a great place to get pasture-raised high-quality meats. I also really like White Oak Pastures.
- Bag of Coleslaw Mix- I went with a simple bag of coleslaw mix for sake of ease. If you prefer to shred your own cabbage and carrots, that's fine too- you'll need about 5 cups of shredded cabbage and 1 cup of shredded carrots
- Coconut Aminos - Coconut aminos make this meal. As with many other recipes, it adds a ton of flavor. I get mine at Kroger but you can also get them on ShopAIP or Amazon.
- Apple Cider Vinegar- Apple cider vinegar adds just a little bit of tang and makes a big difference in flavor.
- Ground Ginger- You can use ground ginger or fresh ginger. If using fresh, you'll need about 2 tsp.
- Garlic Powder- You can use fresh garlic if preferred- use about 1 clove of minced garlic in place of the 1/4 tsp powdered garlic.
- Fish Sauce - This is an optional ingredient mainly because it adds a fair amount of saltiness and I think it should be added to taste. Fish sauce has a great umami flavor and helps to counterbalance the sweetness of coconut aminos. If you have it, it's worth using. That being said, this meal is good without it too.
- Sesame Oil - Sesame oil is a stage one reintroduction on AIP so it's not to be used during the elimination phase. If you've reintroduced it, it is another great flavor booster.
- Green Onions -These are added at the end of cooking as a garnish. Don't skip them because they add a lot of flavor and they make the dish really pretty.
How to Make Egg Roll in a Bowl in an Instant Pot
Making this meal in a pressure cooker isn't all that different than making it on the stove aside from being a bit faster.
- Set the instant pot to the saute function and heat the oil. Add the onions and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the ground pork and cook until fully browned/cooked (about 7-8 minutes). Turn off the heat.
- While the meat is cooking, mix the sauce ingredients together in a bowl.
- Add the coleslaw mix and sauce to the Instant Pot. Make sure the valve is on "sealing." Put the lid on and set to pressure cook on high for 5 minutes.
- Do a quick release of the steam and remove the lid. Stir and serve over cauliflower rice with sliced green onions on top.
Stove Instructions for Egg Roll in a Bowl
- Heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and cook 2-3 minutes.
- Add the ground pork and cook until fully browned/cooked (about 7-8 minutes).
- While the meat is cooking, mix the sauce ingredients together in a bowl.
- Add the coleslaw mix and sauce to the pan and continue cooking for 5-10 minutes or until the vegetables are tender and remove it from the heat.
- Serve over cauliflower rice and garnish with sliced onions.
Notes
Set Aside Some Raw Cabbage- I ended up setting aside about 1 cup of cabbage and then adding it back to the meal when I was done cooking. The reason for this is to add back a bit of freshness/crunch. In particular, I like getting a little bit of shredded purple cabbage to add at the end because it looks so beautiful. This step is completely optional and mainly a matter of personal preference. I really like the raw cabbage added at the end but my kids prefer it without.

Hey there!
This recipe sounds great! I just dont like coconut aminos. Is thereanything I can use to replace it.

Hi Anilu! There's not really a great substitute for coconut aminos. There are recipes for homemade coconut aminos where you could maybe make it taste the way you want- this one is a good example. Otherwise, I'd probably start with a little beef broth, a tiny bit of maple syrup or honey, and maybe some fish sauce. You'd have to play with it though.
